Happy Birthday Tupac Shakur

June 16, 2010

Tupac Amaru Shakur (June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996)

Life is, and will always be, about skanks.

May 30, 2010

Meet Charles, i was at a dinner party with a couple girlfriends of mine. (by girlfriends i mean some ladies i would really like to hook up with but i havent figured out how to get out of the friend zone) Charles has been away from the table for about 20 minutes making love to a bottle of wine. He comes back to us in a bitter rage, pulls his hand out pretending to shoot one of the girls and yells SKANKS!!! So glad we got a photo of it.   I Suppose the moral of this story is that Charles and I need to learn how to get out of the friend zone or we will fucking destroy something.

Dog Diving

March 18, 2010

Two members of the Austrian special forces join Nato’s Operation Cold Response, one of Europe’s biggest military exercises, in Narvik, Norway.
Dropping from 10,000ft, they glide in order to land unnoticed. The dogs often carry cameras and are trained to attack anyone carrying a weapon.

“Dogs don’t perceive height difference, so that doesn’t worry them. They’re more likely to be bothered by the roar of the engines, but once we’re on the way down, that doesn’t matter and they just enjoy the view,” said the dog handler. “It’s something he does a lot. He has a much cooler head than most recruits.”

Banksy vs. Robbo

March 4, 2010

The street art battle is getting real thick.

Robbo, an orginator and pioneer of street art.  A legend in England.

Banksy, you know the dealz.

Simply, Banksy covered up a 25 year old classic Robbo piece on a canal wall under a bridge.  The piece which once read ROBBO INC. was now banksified below.

Robbo then stepped out of retirement at 40 yrs old to regain his legacy.

Peep the Wall Street Journal article for more crazy pics.  I wish I was there to throw a few RIFF 89’s in the mix.

Anthony Ausgang Bugs Out w/ MGMT

Anthony Ausgang is doing the artwork for MGMT’s album Congratulations.

His “lowbrow art” is creating thick looney tune-like nostalgia, except a little more disturbing and slightly more perverted.

Real dope.

“Bad” Mural in Brooklyn

February 17, 2010

I was wondering when they were gonna do this.

The Downtown Brooklyn Partnership negotiated an agreement to create a mural of the late King of Pop at the entrance of the Hoyt-Schermerhorn train station.

The location holds special significance because the Hoyt-Schemerhorn station is where director Martin Scorsese directed Jackson in the iconic 1987 music video “Bad.”

Just another reason to take a band trip to nyc.

Obey Jim Jocoy

January 28, 2010

This just went up today on the Obey site and is now another member of the Rausch Hausch.

The illustration(minus spray can) is based on a photo by my friend Jim Jocoy who did a great book of late 70’s punk photos called “We’re Desperate”. Pick the book up if you can.

I saw this book on Amazon for $3. Go cop one son.

Goodbye John

December 17, 2009

It’s official.  John Frusciante has quit the Chili Peppers.

The band went on an indefinite hiatus a year ago, but John has issued a statement on his website saying that he’s moving on for good.

To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

It’s understood that there’s no bad vibes amongst the band though.  Everyone is kinda doing their own thing.  Flea’s worked with Thom Yorke and Patti Smith, Chad’s got the Bombastic Meatbats and Chickenfoot, and Anthony is working on a series based on Scar Tissue.

It’s a sad day, but I still look forward to what these dudes bring in the future.  Maybe we can expect a Chili Pepper reunion 2015… i’ll be there.

Rage Against the Machine is Killing Christmas

December 16, 2009

Tom Morello is at the forefront of the ‘Anti-Ballad’ movement in hopes to have the RATM single “Killing In the Name” reign as the #1 UK Christmas song charted this year.

His competition: X Factor Champion Joe McElderry’s version of “The Climb”.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Morello said: “I love the independent spirit of the British rock fans. Your country has a great rich history of cutting-edge, exciting rebel music.”

This whole things seems very silly…battling a talent show winner for something so meaningless anyway.

But since you care a lot, my suggestion is that you cover this and strive to make it to the top.  Or you can take the same amount of effort and make new Rage songs.  Whatever bro.

Go Ahead, Take a Spoonfull

December 8, 2009

The Hotchocspoon is an absolute game changer for the morning beverage world.  Hot chocolate will never be the same.

The idea is simple. Place a spoon in a mould with 50 grams of delicious liquid chocolate. Let the chocolate solidify, remove the chocolate covered spoon from the mould and stir this through hot, full fat milk. Heavenly.

Chocolate addicts be warned.

UK Postage Rulez

October 16, 2009

We’re just not as cool..

This stamp issue salutes this unique art form and celebrates some of the greatest examples, used by UK artists.  This band of designers and photographers have not only reflected the visual styles of many musical cultures, but have also defined and created them, too.

The only thing I can hope for now into the future is an Andrew W.K. stamp.

Get it together America.

The Fall of The Storch

September 24, 2009

“I was burning through about $250,000 a month, mostly on partying,” he says, his voice low and measured. “I was spending money I had no business spending.” And his coke-fueled sense of invincibility had him believing he couldn’t fail as a star-maker; he became convinced he could make hit records for his onetime girlfriend Hilton and the unlikeliest of pop divas, Brooke Hogan. The results were disasters, and made Storch a punch line. “I was doing blow 24-7. It was out of control,” he says. “I love Brooke, but I did that shit because her father was putting all sorts of pressure on me.” He tosses a bag of Blackberry Kush, some of California’s finest medicinal-grade weed, onto the table. “Sure, it was fun. But the thing is, I didn’t make one good bit of music when I was high on coke. Not one bit.” He shakes his head and leaves the room.

RIP Knitting Factory

July 22, 2009

Woow,  it’s sad to hear that the Knitting Factory is finally throwing in the towel

Earlier in the year there were rumors about this place shutting down.  But now, come November, it’s done for good.  Definitely hosted many of our rock out fests,  and it’s unfortunate that  such a classic venue has got to go.

For us, the Knitting Factory was simply a New Kingdom playground.  I mean, it birthed Snazzfest…nuff said.  And aside from the sound being on point, this venue always carried good vibes and often felt like home.

If you’ve never been here, I suggest you go catch a show before it closes.

And to the Knitting Factory…you’ll be vashnooksing in our hearts forever.
