Free School x Bang.Alter.

January 26, 2010

Our buddy Replay (also known as PLIIIIIIIIZZZZZZ!!) is in a 4-member band/writing team/production monster called Free School.

The collective of prolific co-writers – Jean Baptiste, Michael McHenry, Nick “Public” Marsh, and Replay (just Replay) – have quietly been writing hit songs for chart-topping, platinum-selling pop acts, including Kid Cudi (“Heart of a Lion), Kelis (her forthcoming album), Black Eyed Peas, and Good Charlotte, to name a few.

Peep they’re myspace, super dope crew.

They have a classic banger called “Give It To Me” that our other buddy MATTER and his production partner Adam Berg (together they’re Bang.Alter.) just recently remixed.  Also super dope.

Peep the remix here.

Both Replay and MATTER are two of the nicest, most genuine, and coolest people that I’ve ever come across in my life.  Support their shit!!

Love you dudes.

Vikings Get Pumped To Prince

January 22, 2010

Yes! When I found out Prince wrote a new Vikings Fight Song, I immediately dipped my hands in glue and glass and socked Evan in the face, then took him out to Tony Roma’s for the “endless slab” of baby back ribs to celebrate.

(how funny is Prince?)

Goodbye John

December 17, 2009

It’s official.  John Frusciante has quit the Chili Peppers.

The band went on an indefinite hiatus a year ago, but John has issued a statement on his website saying that he’s moving on for good.

To put it simply, my musical interests have led me in a different direction. Upon rejoining, and throughout my time in the band, I was very excited about exploring the musical possibilities inherent in a rock band, and doing so with those people in particular. A couple of years ago, I began to feel that same excitement again, but this time it was about making a different kind of music, alone, and being my own engineer.

It’s understood that there’s no bad vibes amongst the band though.  Everyone is kinda doing their own thing.  Flea’s worked with Thom Yorke and Patti Smith, Chad’s got the Bombastic Meatbats and Chickenfoot, and Anthony is working on a series based on Scar Tissue.

It’s a sad day, but I still look forward to what these dudes bring in the future.  Maybe we can expect a Chili Pepper reunion 2015… i’ll be there.

Rage Against the Machine is Killing Christmas

December 16, 2009

Tom Morello is at the forefront of the ‘Anti-Ballad’ movement in hopes to have the RATM single “Killing In the Name” reign as the #1 UK Christmas song charted this year.

His competition: X Factor Champion Joe McElderry’s version of “The Climb”.

Speaking to BBC 6 Music, Morello said: “I love the independent spirit of the British rock fans. Your country has a great rich history of cutting-edge, exciting rebel music.”

This whole things seems very silly…battling a talent show winner for something so meaningless anyway.

But since you care a lot, my suggestion is that you cover this and strive to make it to the top.  Or you can take the same amount of effort and make new Rage songs.  Whatever bro.

You can read more here.

Young Punks

November 16, 2009

These little dudes, The Bots, rocked before our set at The Roxy on Friday.  Mikaiah (vocals/guitar) is 16 and Anaiah (drums) is 12.  It’s good, raw, pure punk music.  A lot of fun sharing the stage with them.

Peep their myspace page.  Can’t wait to see what they do in the next 5 years.

Thanks for letting me use your distortion pedal, that was clutch.

Original Raw Power

November 12, 2009

First off, the dude is 62!

It’s crazy to hear this with James Williamson nastily shredding exactly like he did on Raw Power in 1973.

I’m always amazed watching Iggy perform, even if he’s starting to get a little bit of a belly.  I still wish I could write a song so good that Henry Rollins would tattoo it on his back.
